I only got here about 6 years ago but from what I've seen the core of the site from the beginning, and the source of a lot of the joking around, was a bunch of Z owners on the east coast and Texas who all knew each other outside the site from their respective car clubs, tech/dyno/track days and events like ZCon. The march of time ensures that people get busy with other things: more responsibility at work, other cars, other projects, kids (especially kids). There was a post by ni[X]it a while back about how he hadn't touched his Z in three years because of a combination of the above and his posting had dropped accordingly. It seemed like he was on the site all day when I first got here. So as the people you're familiar with tend to drift away the more likely you are to drift off as well. Another aspect that goes along with that is that it's harder for people who don't know each other away from the keyboard to get to the same type of familiarity and joking around. When you're joking around with someone in person you might say something that's pretty mean just by looking at the words spoken, like ripping on a friend for buying lightweight parts when they should just lose the spare tire around their waist. But small changes in tone of voice and body language let you know they're joking whereas when you're just typing "Maybe you should have spent the money on Jenny Craig" those cues are lost and you just come off like a dick. And when you don't know people personally you just don't know enough about them to make a comment or joke based off something more than just what they've posted. There are other things, like the fact that a lot of mods that people used to post about have become so common place that no one bothers. Getting new turbos or a built engine used to be a pretty big deal and often required some modification or fab work. Now that everything from Sport 500s to 3071Rs can be bought pretty much bolt on off the shelf it's just not worth posting about any more. And frankly if someone does I tend to scroll right by because it's been done plenty of times before, nothing new to see. That does open the door to some more radical modification that is new and interesting but this is not always received well (and not always done well to boot). The same sort of thing happens with events, there used to be a lot of posts about some Z owners that went to a drag night or dyno day and it doesn't seem like anyone posts too much about that any more despite the fact that these things are still happening. So while I don't think that Z owners love their cars any less then they ever did that's not necessarily going to equate to the site staying the same.
